You awake from your third nap of the day. Being a student was hard work and you spent most of your weekend resting because you had to work extra hard at school to keep your secret hidden. If anyone else found out you were a neko they would laugh at you and you would be branded a freak for life, lose all your friends, and the world might even explode. Alright that was a worst case scenario but you couldn't risk any one seeing your ears and tail.
You got up from the couch you were just resting on and walked into the kitchen to get some food. Out of nowhere your phone went off in the other room. Moaning out of irritation you went to go check it. The screen showed an unknown number so you sent it to voice mail and went back to getting the food.
You returned to the couch with a bag of (favorite flavor) chips and a coke and turned on the TV to catch the 5 pm news. You had to watch the news every day for some project for school and take notes on the important events. So, you grabbed your note book and a pen and began to listen to the seemingly endless broadcast.
About half way through your phone went off again. You ran to check it because it was a commercial right now so you wouldn't miss anything. Again the screen read unknown. Out of curiosity you decided to answer this time.
"Hello?" You asked into the phone expecting it to be some telemarketer or something.
"Hey (name)! Why did you send me to voice mail the first time! It's not nice to ignore the Hero!" A very loud and kind of annoying voice shouted at you through the phone.
"A-Al?!?! It was you? I didn't know I'm sorry." you panicked as you try to figure out why he of all people was calling you. Sure he could be really annoying and at times scatter brained, but you had the hugest crush on him. You blushed madly when you finally realized that he called you! You we so happy you almost screamed for joy, but stopped yourself because you were still on the phone.
"Dude, you don't need to apologize! I was only joking around" Al laughed into the phone. "I called cuz I wanted to know if I can come by your house for the news at 10. Our TV is shot and I need to get a good grade on this project or I will fail this stupid class." He trailed off.
You turned a deeper shade of red at his question. He wants to come to MY house, late at night, MY house? Your mind was racing; you didn't know what to do. You were going to have to watch that broadcast anyway because your little phone call had interrupted you and you had now missed one news story already.
"Dude, you there?" Al's voice snapped you back into reality.
"Oh yeah, sorry about that. Sure you can come over and watch the news with me." You answered before you could stop yourself.
"That's great! I'll be there around 8 with a surprise!" He cheered and then hung up the phone.
You stood there in shook of what just happened. You still couldn't believe that Al was coming over tonight. You looked around you house, thank god it was actually in good condition for once so that made your life a whole lot easier. But there was a problem, well two problem to be exact, your ears and tail. If Al was coming over you had to hide them the whole time, who knows how long that could be. You decided that instead of panicking you would just take another nap before he came over, so you would have enough energy to keep your secret hidden.
~ 3 hours Later ~
A knocking on the door woke you from your nap. You got up, stretched and then looked at the time. It was already 8! Another knock came from the door. 'It must be Al.' you thought as you scrambled to clean yourself up a bit.
Once you we presentable you approached the door. You grabbed hold of the knob and closed your eyes, concentrating on one thing only, your cat like features. Slowly they began to disappear until you appeared completely human. You opened the door and there stood a very tired and impatient Al. he was holding a bag, but you couldn't tell what was in it.
"What took you so long, dude? I was out there for like five minutes!" He shouted as he stormed into your home and plopped down on the couch.
"Come in and make yourself at home, I guess." You mumbled under your breath so he couldn't hear you.
You awkwardly sat down next to him. You had no idea what you were going to do for two hours before the news started. You looked over to him and he was staring at the bag, his cheeks were a light pink and his bright blue eyes were full of concentration. You hoped that he would be like this once you had to start working on the project.
Out of nowhere, he tossed the bag and it landed softly on the coffee table in front of you. You looked over at him questioningly. "I decided that since you were letting me watch the news here I would pick up some food so you didn't have to make anything." He didn't meet your gaze as he spoke. His cheeks turned another shade of pink, as did yours.
"Thanks Al! That was very sweet of you." You gave him a one armed hug and opened the bag. The sweet smell of burgers filled the room and you let out a sigh as you took it in.
"You really think so? Thanks dude! Now, let's eat!" He snatched the bag and brought out two burgers, one for each of you. He handed the one to you and you took it with a smile.
The two hours went by pretty well. They were filled with the two of you eating burgers and just talking about life. You had never really talked before, and the only reason he had your number was because you were partners on another project a couple months ago. You thought you would never need it again so you got rid of his, he must have kept yours.
But all too soon it was time for the news. So, like you had done earlier, you grabbed your notebook and pen and started to jot down some notes. Al did the same; he must have really wanted a good grade on the project. But by the first commercial break he was starting to squirm.
"Al, are you okay?" You asked more out of curiosity then concern. He turned to you pouting like a child. It was so cute and funny at the same time you had to control yourself from letting out a small giggle.
"No I am not!" He shouted. This startled you a bit and you let your concentration slip for a split second flashing your ear. But as quickly as they came you were able to hide them again. Thankfully Al was too busy complaining to notice. "This is so boring! Can we do something more fun instead!?!?" He was now whining like a three year old.
You couldn't help yourself this time and you started laughing. Al looked back at you pouting again. You sighed and rolled your eyes. "Alright, what would you like to do instead?" you asked still giggling.
He stopped his pouting and a huge grin came across his face. "Let's watch a scary movie! That way if you get scared I'll protect you cuz I'm the HERO!"
You blushed madly. You weren't the biggest fan of scary movie and you had a bad habit of clinging to the closest object when you were scared. In this situation that happened to be Al.
You jumped off the couch refusing to even look at Al. You didn't want him to how badly you were blushing. "I'll go make us some popcorn, and you can pick a movie off of the shelf over there." You said quickly and before he could answer you ran into the kitchen to make the snack.
Once you reappeared the TV was running through the menu screen for the movie Al had chosen. You took a deep breath and marched to the couch and plopped down next to him. He instantly noticed you were already beginning to worry.
"Scared already?" he asked. You shook your head in agreement.
In response he wrapped his arm around you and turned you to face him. He slowly drew you closer and leaned his forehead to yours. "Don't worry, I'm the hero, I'll protect you." He whispered, his hot breath tickling your face. He leaned down and kissed you. At first you didn't know how to react, but soon you relaxed and leaned into the kiss. You both broke away for air, but the look on Al's face wasn't loving or caring or kind, it was shock.
"What's wrong?" Your voice was filled with panic. "Was it something I did?"
"(N-Name), why do you have cat ears on you head, and a tail…?" His voice trailed off and had a nervous shaky tone. You reached up and touched your ears.
Your face lit up bright red and you let out a sigh. "Well I guess the cat's out of the bag."
